There’s a good reason why Dyson is considered synonymous with vacuums. They’re powerful, hard-working and packed full of innovative technology that makes cleaning around the house as simple as can be.

And it’s for those exact reasons that I was keen to get my hands on their latest model, the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™ – available at Harvey Norman.

Giving the house a good vacuum is often the last thing I have time for. I’m sure you can relate, whether you’ve got a busy career, a big family to manage, or a pet to take care of. With that in mind, I was seriously keen to see just how much quicker and easier the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™ could make my cleaning routine.

Excitedly, I opened up the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™ box. In it I found plenty of different attachments and accessories to help me get cleaning.

Firstly, there’s the two included heads. The Digital Motorbar™ Cleaner head is for picking up dust and hair from most floor types, while the model-exclusive Submarine™ wet roller head is designed for removing spills and stains on hard floors. The wet roller head also comes with a convenient drip tray for storing your V15s Detect Submarine™ without worry about run-off water.

The Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™ box also includes a combination tool that merges a brush and a wide nozzle. It’s perfect for handling stuck-on dust and grime. Plus, there’s also a crevice tool designed for cleaning around edges and narrow gaps where one of the larger heads might be less practical.

Another addition is the revolutionary hair screw tool which uses an anti-tangle conical brush bar to quickly pick up long hair and pet hair.

Next are the essential accessories, including the simple-to-use charger, a wand clip that attaches to your vacuum for handy combination and crevice tool storage. Finally, there’s the ingenious Wall dok™ which can be used with the charger to make a convenient, wall-mounted dock for easy charging and storage of the V15s Detect Submarine™.

The obvious difference between the V15s Detect Submarine™ and other vacuums is the flexibility of having a floor washing function built in. Most conventional vacuums don’t have this, meaning you need to use your vacuum and then find a mop if you want to comprehensively clean a room. It was so much easier to vacuum up an area like the kitchen and then simply switch to the wet roller head for an additional deep clean.

I was surprised to find that the wet roller head didn’t need any kind of cleaning solution to work. While Dyson’s Frequently Asked Questions state that you can use detergents if you want to, I found the wet cleaning function worked well without it. Using it on bathroom and kitchen tiles and hardwood living room floors, I found that it was able to handle most of the stains and marks on each surface without much effort.

Beyond that, the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™ is seriously powerful, more than any vacuum I’ve ever used. I was so surprised by how much dust and debris it was able to pick up in just a short clean. Many vacuums I’ve used, including larger vacuums, never seem to pick up that much. It usually takes a few goes to really clean the carpet and even then, you don’t know how much you’ve picked up until you empty it.

The clear bin means you can always tell how much dust you’ve picked up, so you never have to second-guess if the V15s Detect Submarine™ is working. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the bin fill up as you go, knowing your vacuum is working hard to clean your home.

Delving deeper into the power of the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™, I was curious to see how much cleaning I could get done with its 60-minute battery run time^*1. Turns out I was able to vacuum a medium-sized bedroom, a long hallway, and a large kitchen with plenty of time to spare and without having to empty the vacuum bin.

With other vacuums, I’d normally have to stagger my cleaning and waste time emptying the bin in between rooms.

Beyond its battery run-time, the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine’s stick-vacuum design was also incredibly convenient. The low-profile cleaner head meant that I could get under tables, beds and desks easily without having to bend or strain myself to get the right angle. The tools and attachments were also invaluable in tackling parts of the house that are even harder to clean. The crevice tool was the perfect solution for the architraves and picture rails – dust-prone areas that just can’t be cleaned with a regular vacuum.

For all it’s power and performance, the V15s Detect Submarine™ is incredibly light weight. If I needed to clean something on a wall or higher surface, it was just as easy to attach the crevice tool or combination tool and clean up there as it was to clean on the floor. This meant I was able to get stuck into cleaning places that often get left behind or need to be cleaned by hand.

Before finishing this Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™ review, I want to note how impressed I was by  all of its smart features – some that you wouldn’t usually expect from a typical stick vacuum. The LCD display kept me updated by not only showing how much battery I had left, but also displaying maintenance alerts and second-by-second performance statistics. The Dyson V15s Detect Submarine™  also comes with a built-in sensor that counts the numbers of dust particles being picked up and automatically adjusts the power to suit the dust levels detected^*2.
